Itamaracá is an idyllic rural island in the region of Pernambuco, which is located on the North East coast of Brazil, only 50 minutes drive from Recife International Airport.
A very popular resort for people living in the local bustling cities Recife 49km to the South and Joao Pessao 50km to the North, enjoying quality time away from the Cities at weekends. Recent media exposure and the 2014 Football World Cup and 2016 Olympics has led to increased popularity with International tourists.
Itamaracá is 65.410 square kilometers with an estimated population of 17,500. Accesible from mainland town of Itapissuma by road bridge over Jaguaribe River. Divided into three obvious geographical areas. The East a protected forest region. The least urban built up North West accesible via water or road, with beautiful quiet stunning beaches. The larger South part has yet more stunning beaches with local bars & restaurants and the only International hotel on the island. The whole West side of the island looks across the Atlantic with a coral reef 300 metres from shore protecting the coast and naturally harbouring stunning shallow shelved beaches ideal for watersports.
